Celebrate America inside and outside this July! An AC Tune Up and indoor air quality assessment from Walker Heating and Air-Conditioning will ensure you’re free to venture out, or chill at home this July. It’s up to you! Stop by the National Museum of the Marine Corps (you’ve been meaning to anyway, haven’t you?) where they’ll be exhibiting “We the People: Portraits of Veterans in America” art display until July 24th. It’s free, and features internationally renowned artist Mary Whyte’s inspirational seven-year mission to paint fifty large-scale watercolor portraits of current-day American veterans. Her remarkable series depicts military vets of all ages, vocations, and walks of life.
Head to Brew Republic on Friday and Saturday nights for karaoke and, well, beer obviously. Think of all of the patriotic songs you could sing. Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar Mellencamp, Miley…pick your favorite ode and sing it like you mean it.
Dog Days
We’re blessed to live in such a gorgeous part of the country. You know who else is blessed? The canine community. Take your pup(s) on a day-long adventure, beginning with a trip to a dog park like K-9 Gunner Dog Park or Prince William County Dog Park. Then, perhaps a dog/human park in the great outdoors of Locust Shade Park, Leesylvania State Park, or Veterans Memorial Park. End the day at one of the area’s numerous dog friendly restaurants or pubs. The Weems-Botts Crafty Crafters
Don’t feel bad. The name made us giggle, too. Are you a crafter, or know someone who is? The Historic Dumfries Virginia, the non-profit 501(c)3 that operates The Weems-Botts Museum (The Historical Society of the Oldest-Chartered Town in Virginia) puts on this event, an hour of relaxation and socializing with tea, and crafts! 49th National Fourth of July Conservative Soirée
Even if you’re not a conservative, you can’t argue they’re not a fun bunch to hang out with! The National Fourth of July Conservative Soirée is the nation’s largest Independence Day gathering of conservatives. Get inspired listening to patriotic speakers, dance to bluegrass music, enjoy BBQ, beverages. There’s fun for the whole family. Invite your favorite (well-mannered) liberal! Or come solo and enjoy preaching to the choir. We can all just get along!
The 4th of July really isn’t the 4th of July without a solid fireworks display. Hang out in historic Downtown Manassas, sponsored by the City of Manassas, for a celebration surrounding the Historic Downtown train depot, the Harris Pavilion and the Manassas Museum. Rides for the kids start at 3pm. The face painter, caricature artist, food and novelty vendors start at 4 p.m. Enter the Watermelon Eating contest (will seed spitting be a category?), Bike Decorating or Pie Baking contest! Set up lawn chairs and blankets on the Manassas Museum Lawn for the firework display at 9:15 p.m.! If you’re feeling fancy, you can purchase tickets for the high-end rooftop party, with view of the sky and the city, catered by the delicious MeMaw’s Creole Kitchen.
